A few weeks ago, one of my good friends from back in my London days stopped off in Dubai for just 30 hours. She had moved to Australia two years before I moved to Dubai and was flying in from Melbourne on her way to visit the UK, so we had a day and a bit to make the most of it. No pressure, right?
If you’ve ever tried to give someone a proper Dubai experience in that amount of time, you’ll know it’s a bit of a mission. You want skyline views, standout food, a touch of culture and enough time to breathe in between because let’s be honest, we’re not in our twenties anymore.
So, here’s exactly what we did. It was short, seamless and didn’t feel like a frantic box-ticking tour.
6:15am: DXB Airport Pickup
Terminal 3. In and out in under 45 minutes. A win from the start.
7:30am: Breakfast at Jones the Grocer, Palm West Beach
Chilled beachfront views, decent coffee and plenty of choice on the breakfast menu. It’s quiet early in the morning, which makes it a solid first stop after a long-haul flight..
10:00am: Power nap for my friend + reset at home
Trying to push through would’ve been a terrible idea. This gave my friend the energy needed for the rest of the day without the crash.
1:00pm: Brunch at Above Eleven, Marriott Palm West Beach
I deliberately went for a proper table-service brunch so there were no buffet queues to think about. There was a DJ and a good buzz in the air, but it wasn’t so loud we had to shout. The vibe struck that rare balance: lively enough to feel like a treat, but still relaxed enough to catch up properly. We paid AED 395pp for the House Package.
4:30pm: Sunset drinks at SoBe, W The Palm
SoBe is a post-brunch go-to for a reason. The AED 100 sundowner deal (3 drinks from 4 – 6pm) is great value and the skyline views are spot on. Home and in bed by 10pm = a successful day.

7:00am: Breakfast at Aura Skypool
You get access to the pool deck for the views but doesn’t come with sunbed access which was fine for us because we were there for the view. We paid AED 95 each, however the price has since gone up to AED 125pp but it’s definitely still worth that little bit extra. The deal gets you a dish and a breakfast drink. It’s early, peaceful and gives you that “this is Dubai” holiday moment.
8:30am: Quick walk at Kite Beach + another coffee at Le Petit Café
We weren’t exactly dressed for a hike along the beach in the desert heat, so we kept it short. Le Petit Café is tucked away at Umm Suqeim Harbour and gives you Burj Al Arab views with your flat white.
10:00am: Wander through Souk Madinat Jumeirah
Shops, gorgeous canals, more Burj Al Arab views and a quiet atmosphere if you go early. We browsed, snacked on Turkish delight and moved on before it got too busy.
11:15am: Lunch-style stop at Time Out Market, Downtown
This one’s underrated. Loads of food options, loads of space, and an incredible view of the Burj Khalifa without the tourist queues. We sat outside in the shade and just chilled before heading to the airport.
12:00pm: Back to DXB
We left Time Market and Souk Al Bahar at 12pm and made it to departures at DXB just before 12:30pm. She was checked in with time to spare and officially declared it one of the best stopovers she’s ever had.
You don’t need a full week to give someone a solid Dubai experience. With a bit of smart planning, you can make even the shortest stay feel like it was time well spent.
