A couple of weeks ago, I roped my parents and best mate into starting the day with a bit of glam, breakfast at Aura Skypool. Now, let me clear this up straight away before we get to the nitty gritty – breakfast does not include pool access. But you can still access the pool deck so trust me when I say from, the views alone make it worth it. No pool required to feel fancy.
We rocked up just after 7am and were met with a bustling vibe. Turns out, we weren’t the only ones who thought a morning overlooking Dubai’s skyline was a cracking idea. Most of the crowd seemed to be there for the sunrise pool experience (6am, for the early birds), which meant that the indoor area for breakfast wasn’t too packed.
The timing was perfect; the sun was already up, so we weren’t dining in the dark. The views were absolutely stunning. Trying to get an uninterrupted photo, however? That’s another story. People were in full-on Instagram mode, but honestly, you kind of expect that in a place like this.
One thing that stood out: the introduction of dressing gowns for pool guests. A nice touch, even if we weren’t poolside. Also, a pro tip from me: if you ever do visit the pool, pack a spare swimsuit for when you’re done. You’ll thank me later.
Now, onto the breakfast itself. The deal is solid: AED 95 for a dish and a drink (non-alcoholic, obvs). Given the setting, this is a bit of a bargain. The menu had plenty of options to keep everyone happy. I, predictably, went for my signature iced latte with skimmed milk and a shot of hazelnut syrup. Delicious and exactly what I wanted. The food, however, was a mixed bag.
Despite it being relatively quiet indoors, we waited ages for our dishes. Not a problem for most of us, but my mate had to head to work afterward, so time wasn’t exactly on our side. When the food finally arrived, it was cold. All of it. My avocado toast looked the part, with gorgeously runny eggs, but cold toast isn’t exactly the vibe we were going for. A bit of a shame, really, because I’ve eaten here before, and it’s normally spot-on.
I flagged it to the manager, who handled it brilliantly. We got a round of complimentary drinks and a cupcake for the inconvenience, which softened the blow. I’m chalking it up to a one-off because Aura’s standards are usually high.
One of the things I love about this experience is the pre-payment setup. It’s one less thing to think about, and it kind of feels like the whole thing’s free. Except, of course, if you want to leave a tip after.
Would I recommend the breakfast? Definitely. The value for money is hard to beat, and those views? Absolutely stunning. Just don’t go expecting a dip in the pool unless you’ve specifically booked it. Whether you’re after a relaxed start to the day or just fancy treating yourself, Aura’s breakfast experience is a winner… hiccups aside.
