It’s the moment a lot of Dubai holidaymakers are dreading – no more Burj Khalifa + fountain combo for the next five months. Yep, the Dubai Fountains have officially paused their shows as of 19th April 2025, and if your trip falls between now and October, you’re going to miss them entirely.
And breathe. Because you’re not stuck. You’re just going to need to do things a little bit differently.
If you’re feeling like your big “Dubai moment” just got cancelled, hold fire. The truth is: the fountains were always the cherry on top, not the whole dessert. And thankfully, Dubai knows how to deliver a full course of unforgettable views, vibes and very photogenic moments, even without the waterworks.
So, here’s what to do instead. All of these are in and around the Downtown area, so no faffing about with long taxi rides. Just smarter swaps that still feel like you’ve made the most of it.
Not every Dubai Mall visit needs to end in Zara and a panic buy. Frying Pan Adventures have launched a food tour inside the mall (because only in Dubai would that be a thing). Think behind-the-scenes stories, top-notch eats, and a genuinely fun way to explore one of the world’s biggest shopping centres. It’s four hours long, family-friendly, and a genius way to escape the heat while still ticking something off your list.
You were probably hoping for a Burj Khalifa view with the fountains. Instead, how about a Burj view from the Sky Views Observatory? There’s a glass slide, an optional edge walk (for the daredevils), and views that will still make your jaw drop. It’s located just a 15-minute walk or drive from Dubai Mall, so you’re still very much in the Downtown action.
The Burj Khalifa’s observation deck is always rammed, and while the views are great, it’s not exactly the chill moment most people imagine. Instead, go for breakfast, lunch, or afternoon tea at At.mosphere Lounge. Located just two floors below the official deck. Same view, less chaos and you get actual food with your skyline.
Let’s be honest, most of us weren’t packing skates for Dubai. But this Olympic-sized rink inside Dubai Mall is a brilliant way to spend a couple of hours, especially if you’ve got kids or just need a break from the desert heat. It’s also a great backup plan if you’re caught in that weird in-between time when nothing else seems to fit.
Dubai Mall’s newest addition brings a huge, interactive experience to the city centre. Think neon lights, virtual games, nostalgic throwbacks and enough wow factor to make even teens put their phones down.. for a minute at least, anyway. If you’re travelling with family, or just like your entertainment with a bit of edge, it’s a clever way to spend an hour or two.
No, that’s not a typo. If you’re in town on a Tuesday morning, Doors is offering a luxury French Toast dish for AED 1 (about 20p) between 10am and 12pm. You’ll need to head up to Level 4 of Dubai Mall, but the view over Downtown makes it a worthy trip. Definitely one for the ‘bargain but make it boujee’ file.
Absolutely. The fountains might be the crowd-puller, but they’re not the only reason people go. Think of it as your chance to explore the area without being herded by selfie sticks and TikTokers live-streaming the same 60-second show. You’ve still got the Burj, the mall, the food, the views & the vibes.
Planning your trip and panicking that you’ve lost one of the ‘big things’?
You haven’t. It’s just shifted. And with the right swaps, you won’t even notice it’s missing.
Need help building a Dubai plan that still hits the mark without the fountains? That’s literally what we do.
